Gain core insights from industry experts

Advance your career with four courses completed in as little as eight months with our Graduate Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. Without moving away from your core technical foundation, course work will help students sharpen the project management capabilities and leadership skills needed to step up into senior-level or higher-impact roles.

As part of the graduate certificate program, you’ll:

  • Apply specialised knowledge to complex technical and professional challenges in areas such as thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing, and systems design.
  • Develop innovative, ethical, and sustainable solutions through critical and creative thinking in the fields of product development, energy systems, and more.
  • Communicate advanced concepts effectively across various touchpoints a senior-level across technical and non-technical groups, industry and project stakeholders and leadership.
  • Continue to adapt and grow in evolving engineering environments through continuous learning and strategic management, innovation and strategic vision.

If you decide to pursue the masters program after completing the graduate certificate, you may transfer your graduate certificate credits to the program. This means you only need to complete four courses to earn your masters degree.

Our intentionally small class sizes foster closer engagement with lecturers, collaborative learning with peers, and access to tailored career guidance and our network of industry connections.

You’ll choose four courses from our Master of Mechanical Engineering curriculum to ensure your certification is tailored to your interests and career goals. Our curriculum has been designed in consultation with industry professionals to ensure you’re prepared for the challenges of today’s collaborative, tech-driven environment.

Whether you’re upskilling for leadership or keeping on top of the latest tech advancements, this program offers the knowledge and flexibility to keep your engineering career moving forward.

Courses include

This course equips participants with advanced theoretical and technical knowledge and skills on processes involved in engineering the functional properties of materials for different applications. An important role for an engineer is to select materials for specific purposes through understanding the connections between processing, properties, and performance. This course is supported by labs and workshops that allow you to apply this knowledge and develop skills for the assessment and selection of engineering materials.
This course has been designed to enhance your knowledge of advanced control system design. You will analyse automated, digital, and predictive control systems, and use control system software for real-time implementation. You will distinguish principles of control systems and apply them to engineering processes. Theoretical knowledge is complemented with projects simulating real-world scenarios, demonstrated through software like Matlab or Octave.
This course will provide you with an in-depth analysis of advanced robotic systems with a focus on contemporary engineering methods for dynamic modelling and simulation of robots. You will solve real world dynamic problems involving a wide range of industrial applications. Throughout the course you will use computer algebra systems such as the Python scientific stack to develop complex models and undertake dynamic analysis. This will allow results obtained through computer modelling to be correlated with those measured experimentally in the laboratory or in an industrial setting.

This course will prepare you as practising engineer to project manage the development of solutions in the workplace. You will be introduced to engineering project management theory, considering issues and challenges throughout a project life cycle. You will consider the project responsibilities of engineering managers and organisations, from the definition phase of a project to its conclusion. The emphasis is interdisciplinary and relevant to all fields of engineering practice.

This course is designed to enable you to develop and demonstrate advanced teamwork, design and analysis skills. A topical and challenging project will be selected from a larger pool of proposals by each of the teams of multi-disciplinary engineers. The course will simulate an engineering working environment with teams reporting progress at regular intervals to the course coordinator, who will assume the role of project manager.

This course develops the understanding of a student to be able to apply advanced knowledge to Machine Design. As such, the course presents advanced professional and scholarly platforms for further learning and development.

Just four extra courses to complete your masters

If you decide to pursue UniSC’s Master of Mechanical Engineering program, after completing the graduate certificate, you may transfer your graduate certificate credits to the master’s program. This means you only need to complete four more courses to earn your master’s degree, which you can do on a part-time or full-time basis.
